Good news in March 2024

Inclusion Rehabilitation Rights
International

Good news in March at HI: rehabilitation services and orthopedic devices in Peru, Cambodia and the Central African Republic, and inclusion in schools in Kenya.

Zahir, 7, lives in the Kakuma refugee camp with his family. The boy has Down's Syndrome: for 7 years, we have worked with him to develop his physical and cognitive abilities. His efforts have paid off: today, Zahir can go to school where he flourishes.

Peru: Cleidemixila will soon see her son’s first steps

Cleidemixila lives in Peru with her son who has Down syndrome. Through self-help groups, she has found invaluable support among her peers. With the help of physical therapists, her son is making great progress and will soon be ready to take his first steps.

Cambodia: Srey Neang, a prosthesis so she can return to school

A bicycle hurtles along a sandy road in the heart of Cambodia. Every day, Srey Neang puts on her uniform, climbs on her bicycle and pedals to school. This young girl's leg had to be amputated after she stepped on an explosive device at the age of four. Today, after being fitted with a prosthesis by HI, she cycles to school every day and dreams of becoming a doctor.

Central African Republic: Mardoché, a model of resilience

Mardoché is 8 years old and lost his leg after being shot in an armed attack when he was a baby. He was left with a permanent disability. Today, thanks to HI's support and his new prosthesis, Mardoché has newfound confidence and is well on the way to becoming autonomous. What's more, as the only child with a prosthesis, he is something of a star at his school!

Kenya: Zahir loves going to school

Zahir, aged 7, lives in Kakuma refugee camp with his family. He has Down syndrome. We have been working with Zahir since he was a baby to develop his physical and cognitive abilities. Our efforts have paid off: today, he goes to school and is making great progress!
