West Bank, PALESTINE —Humanity & Inclusion strongly denounces the destruction of the health clinic of its local partner, Al-Jaleel Society for Care and Community-based Rehabilitation.
Our partner, Al-Jaleel Rehabilitation Centre in Jenin, is to be demolished by Israeli authorities. This appalling decision will deprive people with disabilities and injuries of essential health services.
The Community Centre of HI’s local partner, Al-Jaleel Society for Care and Community-based Rehabilitation, is facing imminent demolition by Israeli authorities as of 9 June 2025. Despite all efforts to intervene and prevent this action through legal and humanitarian channels, no recourse was granted.
This appalling decision comes after months of repeated assaults on the Centre, located in the Jenin refugee camp, as part of ongoing Israeli military operations in the West Bank. Since January 2025, the facility has been subjected to seven attacks, including incursions, damage by bulldozers, and the storming of its premises, resulting in the destruction of assistive devices by Israeli armed forces.
This latest demolition order is an erasure of essential community service and a deliberate dismantling of community-based support for people with disabilities and injuries.
The Centre served thousands of individuals in need of prosthetics, orthotics, physical and occupational therapy, and psychosocial support, particularly people with mobility impairments. Its destruction constitutes a devastating blow to the rights, dignity, and inclusion of people with disabilities in Jenin and the surrounding areas.
The targeting and destruction of a healthcare and rehabilitation facility constitutes a grave breach of International Humanitarian Law, which protects medical units and their staff under all circumstances.
We denounce this demolition order not only as a violation of international law but as a clear signal of a broader and unlawful annexation agenda being implemented across the occupied West Bank. The increasing use of military orders to seize or destroy Palestinian property and infrastructure is part of a systematic policy that displaces communities, restricts access to basic services, and undermines any path to a just and lasting peace.
The international community must act now to stop the ongoing destruction of Palestinian healthcare, ensure the protection and neutrality of humanitarian assistance, and uphold the rights of persons with disabilities and all protected civilians living under unlawful occupation. Silence in the face of these actions is complicity.
