Humanity & Inclusion (HI) expresses concern over the escalation of violence across Northern Syria and its impact on civilian populations. Below is a statement from the HI delegation in Syria on the ongoing violence across Northeast Syria.
Ongoing hostilities are forcing families to flee. This displacement is occurring in areas already contaminated by unexploded ordnance and explosive remnants of war. Repeated and unplanned movements are increasing exposure to these risks, particularly for people with disabilities, older people, and children who face greater barriers to safe mobility.
“The escalation has also disrupted essential civilian services, which further affects families at a time when communities across Syria urgently need stability to recover and rebuild, “said Danila Zizi, HI’s Syria Program Director
HI calls for immediate de-escalation and underscores the urgent need to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure, ensure safe and sustained access to humanitarian assistance and essential services, and prevent further displacement in an environment where contamination and harsh weather conditions already pose serious, compounding risks.
