Haiti Earthquake: Latest Updates

A 7.2-magnitude earthquake rocked Haiti on August 14, 2021. More than 2,200 people died and at least 12,700 were injured. The quake damaged at least 137,000 homes, as well as churches, bridges, piers, and other infrastructure. Humanity & Inclusion's emergency team is delivering critical aid, providing rehabilitation care and helping communities rebuild.

In Haiti, Humanity & Inclusion and its partners are providing rehabilitation care to people injured in the August earthquake. Some patients are healing from broken bones, while others are recovering from amputations.

Two earthquakes were recorded in Nippes, Haiti, on Jan. 24. Measuring at 5.1 and 5.3 on the Richter scale, the epicenters were 30 miles from Les Cayes, where Humanity & Inclusion teams continue to respond to the 7.2-magnitude earthquake that struck in August 2021.

The August 2021 earthquake and subsequent landslides in Haiti damaged roadways, destroyed bridges and left many communities inaccessible. Nearly 350 community members were hired to conduct clearance activities alongside Humanity & Inclusion throughout the South, in exchange for daily wages.

Gufflie, a civil engineering student and resident of Les Anglais, helped Humanity & Inclusion clear access to her community after the August 2021 earthquake caused significant damage.

Louisiane is a farmer in one of regions most affected by the earthquake that hit Haiti in August 2021. After the disaster affected her income, she joined Humanity & Inclusion’s emergency clearance activities to support her family.
