Risk education on buses in Mosul Iraq

Risk Education

When a community is at risk of encountering the left-over weapons of war, Humanity & Inclusion provides vital, life-saving information.

Our teams work to reach as many people as possible. Alongside volunteers, our staff deliver safety messages in schools, at religious gatherings, and during public meetings. Stay safe messages travel by loudspeaker, radio and TV. And they're repeated on billboards and leaflets, which show people how to spot and avoid weapons, and how to alert the right people to the location of these explosive remnants of war.

Specifically, our teams:

  • Collect data about accidents and victims of landmines and unexploded ordnance, helping to define at-risk populations and to devise appropriate prevention messages.
  • Educate and mobilize local populations, through various information and training campaigns, with the active involvement of local networks (e.g. traditional and religious authorities, local and national administrations).
  • Educate and mobilize children through the school system or other educational networks by developing teaching materials, training courses and specific activities for children.

We are part of an international working group involving the United Nations, other NGOs and the International Committee of the Red Cross, to lay down international standards for risk education.
