Landmines and other explosive remnants of war (ERW) pose a threat to civilians in 75 countries.
In Cambodia alone, there are more landmines and ERW than people. More alarmingly, nearly half of all victims are children.
Those who aren’t killed are condemned to live the rest of their lives with permanent physical disabilities, including the loss of limbs. With the majority of mines and ERW located in rural, poor areas, accessing quality medical care, rehabilitation, and the support services needed to live a full life can be extremely difficult for child survivors and their families.
Handicap International helps these children by providing them with physical rehabilitation, artificial limbs, and the resources needed to attend school. Our support is long-term, ensuring that kids like Kanha, who was injured at age 6, can grow up to be successful adults. In the video below, Kanha, who is now 17, explains how Handicap International changed her life.
