War photographer and amputee, Giles Duley, traveled with one of Handicap International’s mobile teams in Lebanon to visit the most vulnerable refugees. What he found shocked him to the core — incredible people living in desperate situations.
Five-year old Aya is paralyzed from the waist down, having been born with Spina Bifida. Her sister Iman carried her to safety when they fled Syria, a journey that lasted two months. In the makeshift camp where they now live, Aya was isolated and forgotten until Handicap International’s team found her.
Sadly, Aya is just one of thousands of disabled Syrian refugees who desperately need help. Our mobile teams in Lebanon and Jordan are providing people with disabilities, injuries and chronic diseases with rehabilitation sessions, artificial limbs, mobility aids, and psychological support.
