Women and girls with disabilities are rarely taken into consideration or specifically targeted through humanitarian and development investment. As long as women and gender diverse people with disabilities continue to be excluded, women’s empowerment and women’s meaningful participation will not be attained by all women. This briefing paper was written by Humanity & Inclusion in partnership with DAWN Canada, Live Work Well Research Center, and Engendering Disability-Inclusive Development.

In close collaboration with the World Health Organization, Humanity & Inclusion adapted and piloted WHO’s behavioral and social drivers (BeSD) of vaccination tools to understand and analyze the perception of COVID-19 vaccines as well as the barriers and drivers of immunization among persons with disabilities in a humanitarian setting in Somalia/Somaliland. Cash and beyond: Analysis of extra costs associated with disabilities and disability-specific social protection in Ukraine 01/09/23

As conflict in Ukraine continues, the gravity of the humanitarian needs of people in areas directly affected by conflict are deteriorating, leading to consider humanitarian assistance and service provision as most urgent and life-saving. Amongst the people affected, households with members with disabilities and/or older persons may experience greater repercussions and socio-economic implications due to the barriers they face in meeting their needs, including accessing basic services and assistance. The report was written by Humanity & Inclusion with support from USAID.

Let's break silos now! Achieving disability-inclusive education in a post-COVID world 11/01/22

A world where inclusive education can flourish is also a world that can nurture inclusive societies. Working towards this vision is critical for reducing the vast levels of inequality and discrimination currently faced by millions of persons across the globe. This is especially so for the millions of children with disabilities, many of whom struggle to receive even the most basic of educations. Global progress in building inclusive education systems is now threatened by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has severely disrupted the educations of most children, and has seen funds diverted away from the education sector. Despite this setback, governments and the global community are now in a unique position to learn from the pandemic and to renew efforts to improve education.

Explosive ordnance in Syria: impact and required action - Full report 05/11/22

Explosive ordnance (EO) puts one in two people in Syria at risk of death and injury and impedes the delivery of crucial humanitarian assistance. However, the extent of EO in Syria and its devastating impact is not sufficiently known or discussed among donors and humanitarian actors. For example, in 2022, an estimated 10.2 million people live in areas contaminated by EO, but as of March 2022, only 7% of the required USD 83.4 million needed for humanitarian mine action activities has been funded. This report aims to change that. It highlights the extent of EO in Syria; its devastating impact on people, vital infrastructure and provision of humanitarian assistance; the crucial activities performed by humanitarian mine action (HMA) actors; and the action required to address this issue.
